Using Data to Improve Built Environment

Not many people are cognizant of it, but the world of software has long taken cues from the field of architecture. Much of the vocabulary, even the idea of design patterns is inspired by the work of architects. Software is changing how people interact with the world on a day to day basis, but even with all the advances in this area, the way we design buildings today isn’t that different from 50 or a 100 years ago. Jen Carlile spoke at KeenCon about how Flux is trying to change that.

About Jen Carlile

Jen is a software engineer building tools for people in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry. Her path to becoming a software engineer was a winding one that took her through the world of experimental music, professional audio, and eventually to a research lab at Google. As Co-Founder of Flux, Jen wants to empower people to solve the world’s most pressing problems related to urban population growth and climate change, and create beautiful designs in the process.
