It’s hard to believe, but TechDay LA 2019 has officially come and gone! This was our first year attending TechDay NY and LA, and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Over the past week, we’ve had a chance to reflect on our time in LA, the people we made connections with, and what we’ve learned along the way. 

One thing can be said for certain – we’ve seen an unprecedented amount of companies who are looking for ways to provide customer-facing analytics in their applications. We were able to connect with some awesome exhibitors from TechDay who are up to some really neat things! Here’s our list of 4 booths that stood out to us at TechDayLA.

How We Avoided Booth Disaster

Question: What do you do when you’re setting up for TechDay LA and you realized half of your booth is lost in transit? 

Answer: You put on your thinking caps, muster up all the scrappy marketing ideas you can, and go full out! 

After a long call with our shipping provider the day before the trade show, we accepted that there was no way we could get the other half of our booth to LA in time. Ensue a brainstorming session: What do we have to work with? What can we pull off in less than 24 hours? Luckily, since we were National Sponsors of the event, we had a black backdrop behind our booth. Then, the lightbulb went off – someone said: “Oh yeah, sort of like Between Two Ferns” and another Keenster replied “No…..Bekeen Two Ferns.”

At that point, we decided it was all or nothing on this idea. We needed: 

  • A Bekeen Two Ferns sign
  • Two Ferns (we settled for any two plants)
  • Two Chairs
  • And two end tables.

Let the scavenger hunt begin! Some of us started designing the logo, some worked with TechDay LA to find the chairs and tables, and the rest ran around looking for plants! We finally found the nicest shop owner in Little Tokyo who let us rent her display plants for the day. TechDay hooked us up with tables and chairs, and the morning of, we raced to Staples and printed out our materials. 

Take a look at the finished product below. In all, we think we did a pretty great job! It turned out to be a great conversation starter, and we had tons of attendees and exhibitors walk up to our booth solely to hear our backstory/process on our booth idea. Moral of the story is: you can always find a way to take lemons and make them into lemonade!

Overall, TechDay gave us the opportunities to connect and share information with other great tech companies that we may have otherwise never heard of! We left LA with a feeling of accomplishment, big learnings we’ll use to prepare for next year, and tons of new contacts.
