Is it a millennials thing?

Earlier this month I published a very personal piece on our company blog, an internal memo I wrote to my entire team. I got a ton of great feedback on it, literally hundreds of comments and retweets and upvotes. But there were a few detractors. They couldn’t understand why I would publish something where I talked about our challenges. Why would I show weakness like that? What if it deterred customers?

I wonder if this could be a generational divide. Maybe if you didn’t grow up sharing things on the Internet, this concept is bizarre. Maybe you don’t understand that the most popular people online are required to show humility, how cool _and_ how normal they are. The people you like most on your Facebook stream are not the ones who overshare, not the ones who show the most picture-perfect stream, but the ones who strike a balance of showing a little bit of their struggles _and_ their triumphs.
