We Heart Ducksboard ❤ ❤ ❤

Hi. Michelle here.

I’ve been mulling over a few introductory (more difficult) blog post ideas, but decided to skip those because I’m pretty excited about this new tool I setup today: ducksboard.

I’ve been craving a metrics dashboard here at Keen HQ. An easy way to see how we’re doing when it comes to site traffic, uptime, twitter, etc. My iMac had recently gone into retirement, and its beautiful, glossy glass screen has been staring blankly and forlornly for weeks. It can run a browser, and that’s about it. Perfect.

Two weeks ago at gluecon, a visitor at the Keen pod was telling me about the amazing UI of the site three booths down. They had hired a designer of international esteem, and their site had the delightful feature of being highly usable from 2ft or 22ft. I was intrigued, so I took a gander at this ducksboard. The guys at the booth were super nice and their product was, indeed, gorgeous.

Putting off a dreadful task related to health insurance helped rekindle the dashboard idea today, and I finally got some time to play around ducksboard. In under an hour, I was able to pull this together:

Not bad, right?? It’s just the basics. I can’t wait to get some of our custom metrics piped in.

Ye olde iMac now has a venerable, standing-height position in our office. It runs 3 chrome tabs: ducksboard, our team google calendar, and our asana project.

PS. We turned on sounds for the twitter followers metric. Whenever we get a new follower, we hear a sound which I would describe as “twinkly gold coin”. I love it.
